We Beleaf in a Plant-Based Future

When Emmi, the largest dairy company in Switzerland, wanted to venture into the vegan market with us, we provided design, strategy, naming, and our full support. Because we beleaf the future is plant-based.

We kicked off the “Emmi goes vegan” project with a workshop and then began developing the brand strategy. By creating a new sub-brand, the traditional Swiss dairy company hoped to create plant-based products that are just as enjoyable as the rest of their range. Their target group: urban flexitarians.

Fun and pleasure instead of boredom and sacrifice. The name and design concept revolved around the firm belief that plant-based alternatives taste just as good as the “real” stuff. We brought this credo to life through bold, modern plant motifs and colors. The result: beleaf stands out in the dairy aisle amongst the otherwise brightly colored products – and was awarded the Red Dot Award 2020 for its unique look.

The design shows that plant-based alternatives are anything but boring. Lovingly illustrated plant motifs in contrasting colors raise curiosity about the brand and show how healthy and sustainable products can look today – far removed from the “eco look.”

Result

The beleaf brand has started to develop a following: in addition to the almond-based yogurt and shakes, we were approached to help expand the range with a beleaf cheese.
